I’m Gonna Be Your Friend

The other day AJH was supposed to be taking her morning nap while I was getting ready for the day. She didn’t want to settle down and kept fussing in her crib so I stopped brushing my teeth to go check on her. I had just downloaded the B is for Bob compilation of Bob Marley songs in “kid form” for her Ipod and right as I walked in “High Tide or Low Tide” came on. I remember I used to love that song but hadn’t heard it in years. It was another I-god moment. I started singing it to her and she immediately got the biggest smile on her face. The more my pitchy, tone-deaf self sang along to his raw, young melody the more she kicked and cooed and grinned.

Ahhhh.

It brought tears to my eyes.
For the first time I actually listened to the words.
And meant every one of them.
In high seas or in low seas
I’m gonna be your friend,
I’m gonna be your friend.
In high tide or in low tide,
I’ll be by your side,
I’ll be by your side.

(I heard her praying, praying, praying)
I said, I heard my mother,
She was praying in the night (praying, praying, praying)
And the words that she said (the words that she said),
They still linger in my head (lingers in my head),
She said, “A child is born in this world,
He needs protection,
God, guide and protect us,
When we’re wrong, please correct us.
(when we’re wrong, correct us).
And stand by me”

In high seas or in low seas,
I’m gonna be your friend,
He said, “I’m gonna be your friend.”
And, baby, in high tide or low tide,
I’ll be by your side,
I’ll be by your side.

I said I heard my mother,
She was crying’ (I heard her crying’) in the night (crying’, crying’),
And the tears that she shed (the tears that she shed)
They still linger in my head (lingers in my head)

She said: “A child is born in this world,
He needs protection,
God, guide and protect us,
When we’re wrong, (when we’re wrong), correct us.

And in high seas or low seas,
I’m gonna be your friend,
I’m gonna be your friend.
Said, high tide or low tide,
I’ll be by your side,
I’ll be by your side.

Beautiful Pictures

We are so blessed to have met Jason and Tammy Keefer when they photographed Molly and Ryan’s wedding in 2008. They were such a hit that Ben’s cousin, Katie also used them to photograph her wedding last summer, and they have been back to visit several times. They asked if they could come take pictures of AJH and we were more than thrilled with the results. It brought tears to my eyes to see our little girl looking so beautiful. Yes, I see her all day, every day, but as any mother knows, it never gets old! Here are some of my favorites:

Thank you Tammy and Jason! You are amazing!

Beautiful Deal

When I first saw this bathing suit at our Staunton T.J. Maxx, my response was
O-M-G.
So middle-school, I know, but I couldn’t get over how adorable.

Norah Allover Pony Swimsuit, Ralph Lauren $40

AND…

It was on clearance for $13!!

Yes, it was a size 24 months, but who cares? She’ll wear it when she’s two.

Until then it will hang in her closet looking pretty.

16 week Photo Shoot

So, every day when we have “tummy time” it is just too tempting for me to have a little mini photo-shoot, especially since I am borrowing the school yearbook camera for the summer. It’s a Rebel camera with a nice lens and it’s good practice for me to learn how to use all the cool features. Plus, she’s just so darn cute, it’s hard to resist!
Today I noticed her face is really starting to take shape. She is just looking so much older with each day that passes and I don’t wan to miss anything!
So far, her eyes still seem to be blue, but most people think they’re going to soon change to brown like mine. We’ll see! Whatever color they end up being, there is no doubt they sure are BRIGHT!
Gotta love those lips, too.
She also reached another milestone yesterday: rolling over from back to tummy. I heard her crying up in her crib during nap time and when I went to check she had rolled onto her tummy. She was a bit frightened and hasn’t done it again since, but I’m sure there will be more on the way since she is always on the move!

4th of July Festivities

We started our 4th of July weekend by going to the Staunton Parade. It was a first for AJH and myself, and though I was not disappointed, AJH wasn’t as impressed.
Molly, Valerie and I were very festive for the occasion!
We then headed to the Harper’s for their annual party to celebrate the 4th and Thelma’s birthday. It was sooo hot, but we enjoyed the cornhole tournament and chatting with friends and family.
We decided to let AJH try to the pool for the first time, but it didn’t go over very well. At least she had a cute suit!
Here she is lounging in her “after pool” outfit with her new Henry doll. We decided to get a back-up, just in case something happened to her pink one. Now we just match them to her outfit, pink or blue!
I also had to capture our friend Kristen’s lovely matching accessories. The bag was our wedding gift to her, and if you like it you can find it at Ida Claire, one of my new favorite websites.
On Sunday, July 4th we went to NOVA to visit my family and help them move into their new house. We had a long day, but a great visit and Annalee even had her first belly laugh with my dad while playing peek-a-boo. I didn’t get a picture, but it was sooo cute.

Love.
