Turquoise Corner

I love this little turquoise chair and thought you would, too.

I picked it up randomly last fall from an antique booth at MaDee’s Market.

(If you’re interested in being a vendor at the market this fall, get more info. here. It’s a great cause!)

The awesome color and very attractive price tag caught my eye as I was literally walking out the door and I’m so glad I stopped to get it! Turquoise is my favorite color and I’ve enjoyed collecting bits and pieces in that shade to sprinkle around the house over the years.

I (more like my husband) didn’t think we had room for one.more.thing. but now that I put my cute little chair in this corner of our living room, I can’t imagine it NOT being there.

I’m really liking how it covers those unsightly cords.

It used to bother me that the color of the chair is not the exact same as the dresser, but I’m starting to embrace the ability to mix multiple shades of the same color rather than be too “matchy-matchy.”

What do you think?

MaDee’s Holiday Market

Please come out and see me on Saturday for the 2nd Annual MaDee’s Holiday Market! I will have a booth called Make it Beautiful right next to the lovely Designs by Kara Kihm and I have made lots of darling necklaces, earrings, and hair accessories! I will also be installing feather hair extensions for and selling feather hair clips. I’d love your support on my first craft fair and The MaDee Project is an amazing cause! Get your Christmas shopping done while helping to raise money for pediatric cancer!!
Here are some of my latest creations:
Hope to see you on Saturday!

What have I been up to?

I feel like the summer has FLOWN by, and for the first time in years… I am not even sad.
Because right now, every day feels like summer.
And though I fear sounding all annoyingly gloat-y..I must say, I couldn’t be happier.
After seven years, I will not be headed back to work as a teacher this fall. I will miss my co-workers, and of course the kids, but I am VERY thrilled to be able to spend more time at home with my daughter. This is what I have always wanted as a mother and feel so grateful that I have the opportunity to be a “stay/work at home mom.”
While I am not physically going to work every day, I have been staying super busy with blogging for Where to Get Engaged, and Christopher William Jewelers, as well as doing hair feathers, other crafts, and making jewelry.
Here are some of my latest jewelry projects:
I made the brown and pink necklace for the silent auction at Music for MaDee, in MaDee’s favorite colors (top left). The tropical necklace was intended for a bride-to-be but when I was off on the shade of blue she wanted, it ended up as a baby shower gift for a great friend (top right). The necklaces I completed for a bridal party turned out very pretty (bottom left) and I have been really loving these flower stud earrings lately (bottom right). If you’re interested in buying any of these pieces for yourself, message me, visit my Etsy shop, and if you’re local, come visit me at MaDee’s Holiday Market on October 22nd, where part of my proceeds will be given to The MaDee Project.
Speaking of Music for MaDee, I did hair feathers at the event and stayed very busy the entire time!
It was a huge hit and I had so much fun meeting all the cool clients of all ages.
Our neighbors had a HUGE yard sale last Saturday and I found this simple shelf.
(I didn’t take the “before” pic. until I had already started painting!)
I thought it would look great in the color of my front door.
And make an excellent display for my hair feathers and earrings.
We bartered some treats from our garden when our gracious neighbors refused to take any money for the shelf…that’s my kind of deal!
I hope to write more soon…but in the meantime I will be kissing this sweet face.

Making it Beautiful: Bib Necklaces

I have found a new love for making headbands and jewelry and my current project is making bib necklaces. I just love bold pieces that make a statement and I hope these do just that! People have been asking how they can purchase them so I have finally posted my first two on Etsy.
Modeled by the lovely Victoria
If you’re interested in purchasing, please see my Etsy Shop: Making it Beautiful
I will be posting pictures soon for other available variations, which will include pinks, browns, and blues with both silver and gold accent pieces. Some pieces will be one-of-a-kind with vintage chains/brooches, which will vary in cost.
Thanks for looking and enjoy!

“In creating she becomes herself, accomplishes her destiny…”

Yesterday my read.write.heal post inspired me to create something. So after picking up some supplies, coming home and putting AJH to sleep, I got to work. As B. and I watched disc four of Lost, season 1 (we’re now a bit addicted) I made my own bib necklace, inspired loosely by a cheap one from Target and all more so by the expensive ones I can’t afford from Anthropologie.
Target necklace on the left, mine on the right.
I also had a student take some shots and do some editing for my Etsy site  (if I decide I can part with it)!

And me modeling my new style, which I like to call “Bohemian Bag Lady”
Dress, and sweater, Target; leggings, Old Navy; boots, T.J. Maxx
If you’re interested in purchasing a necklace, check back to my Etsy site in a few days and I should have a few more options to choose from!

Crafty Mama

I bought AJH some beautiful headbands a few weeks ago and quickly realized that I could probably make the very same headbands while also enjoying another creative outlet. I went to our local craft store and found some of the exact flowers used in the headbands I had previously bought. I found some other materials and pre-made headbands, got my glue-gun out and went to town! I made five in about an hour and a half, which isn’t too bad. Here is my first batch, which were a learning experience:
I quickly decided I didn’t like the pre-made headband material and ordered a variety of stretchy lace, which I liked much better. They have evolved into a whole collection:
I had some interest so I started an Etsy store and have already taken 10 orders!
If you’re interested in purchasing one for your own little woman, just find me on Etsy and place your order!

Going Green!

We like it! It looks almost identical to my inspiration–the green cushion! What do you guys think?

Beautiful Find

One of the things I love most about living in this area is that I can walk into an antique store in Downtown Staunton at any given time and find something as beautiful as this vintage, hand- tooled, leather purse:
On
Look, it even opens  up to this hidden treasure on the inside!
And it has the perfect length strap for sleek, ergonomic carrying ease.
And, all for $20!! Yes, $20!
Take that, New York City, where I bought the first of my collection for the ridiculous amount of  $45.

If you haven’t heard, I have a bit of an obsession with these guys.  I’ll try to do a blog showcase of the collection in its entirety sometime soon.

My friend, KB, knows about my unhealthy love for these purses and even though she saw this one first, and could have thus claimed it, according to my shopping by-laws, she let me have it. Thank you, KB, I owe ya one!

In my eyes it is a true work of art and of my most beautiful finds.

Antique Baby Carriage

Check out this beautiful antique baby carriage Phoebe and Bob found in PA. It was originally manufactured in NYC in 1961 and is in excellent condition. I can’t wait to see it in person and push Baby Halterman around the neighborhood.
