My musical utopia

Can we talk about how much fun these guys are having?
It’s refreshing.
I’ve been playing on YouTube this morning because I just learned a new trick and am very excited.
I didn’t know you could make a “playlist” until yesterday when I randomly stumbled upon an “Avett Brothers Mix,” which happens to be amazing. It’s like Pandora, but with videos.

I’m currently digging this song…a lot.

“If it’s the beaches
If it’s the beaches’ sands you want
Then you will have them
If it’s the mountains’ bending rivers
Then you will have them
If it’s the wish to run away
Then I will grant it
Take whatever you think of
While I go gas up the truck
Pack the old love letters up
We will read them when
we forget why we left here.”

I was working on my own little mix when I came across the above version of “Frankie’s Gun” by the Felice Brothers. They are joined with the likes of Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch and Justin Townes Earle during The Big Surprise Tour . (And, yes, that is Ketch Secor of OCMS dancing around in the Hawaiian shirt in the background). We had the delight of seeing the tour when it came to Charlottesville, VA  in August of 2009 and baby AJ got a workout in my tummy because I didn’t stop dancing the entire time.
I like to think it was legendary.
One day we’ll be telling our grandkids about it.
Just like the time we met Charlie Gearheart of Goose Creek Symphony.

 Legendary.

We were at the Song of the Mountains festival in Rural Retreat, VA and I like to look back on that weekend as my little “utopia.”

The day was filled with everything I love…

..not only beautiful mountains,

…but beautiful music in the mountains.

Not just wine…

…but wine with best friends.

When I wonder where it is that I fit in,
where I belong
in this big world,
I think of that weekend.

Walking barefoot in the grass,
wine in hand,
warm summer breeze,
music playing
in the mountains
with beautiful people.

Only thing missing would be a baby on my hip.

I hope we can take AJH there sometime soon.
(But maybe with less wine)

This pretty blond girl is my soul sister by the name of EMP who currently resides in Roanoke, VA.

When I’m around her my heart is at peace.

This happens to be our favorite Goose Creek Song:

If my other soul sister could sing this song for me on my birthday I would cry happy tears.
(hint hint 😉

Music
and these memories with music
get me through the day.
